Learn to Swim
Stockport Metro lessons offer a fully inclusive programme, catering for everyone, from infants to adults. All levels of ability can benefit and enjoy the programme, from the non swimmer to an Olympic hopeful.
Lessons are delivered by a strong and creative team, all of whom are qualified to the highest levels and participate in regular in house training.
Youngsters can join the scheme from as early as a few months old (after injections), on our Pre school lessons scheme, previously known as Swim Tots. The scheme is a series of adult and child water activities which starts at a very basic level that helps to increase water confidence, and over time sessions become more structured and lead into a badge scheme. At the end of the pre school programme children will become independent as they prepare to join the Stockport Metro lessons scheme.

Coaching
Stockport Metro is Britain’s most successful club in terms of individual Olympic medallists and provides numerous avenues for swimmers who wish to continue in swimming once they have reached the end of the lessons programme.
Opportunities are available to progress to the coaching side of the programme – should competitive swimming not be a first choice various other options are available, such as Rookie Lifeguarding, Synchronised Swimming, Activity Swims and much more.
Stockport is one of British Swimming six ITC’s (Intensive Training Centre), and the only one not based at a University. The Stockport ITC has been recognised as a model of good practice and is headed up by some of British Swimming’s most recognised coaches.
Stockport Metro continues to be at the forefront of British Swimming’s success on the world stage, with more individual Olympic Medallists than any other Club. Current World, Olympic and Commonwealth winners and medallists are based there - you can literally be in the Pool with an Olympic or Commonwealth medallist.
