The newly refurbished gym at Life Leisure Grand Central is now open!

At Life Leisure, we really love what we do and the people we do it for. Here’s what you can expect to see in the brand-new gym:

Interactive coach led equipment
Dive into a world of possibilities with our new immersive cardio equipment with interactive workouts and personalised training programmes from iFIT. Whether you’re cycling on a virtual beach or conquering a challenging mountain trail, each workout will transport you into a realm of excitement!

Strength training
After conducting research and receiving feedback on what it is you want from the gyms, we’ve invested more in strength training equipment to provide you with the best possible workout space to achieve your goals. We’re talking dedicated cable areas, a brand-new range of weight machines and introducing kit that the gyms have never featured before from Matrix and Glute Builder.

In the heart of Stockport, the gym at Life Leisure Grand Central has a range of cardio and resistance equipment such as cross trainers and treadmills as well as plenty of free weights across several different areas making sure you have the right amount of space to perform your workout.

StrongHer – beginners weightlifting course for women.

2024 Course start dates:
Monday 9th September
Monday 4th November

Spend six-weeks with our expert coaches and learn everything you need to lift weights safely, efficiently and with confidence, alongside other likeminded women. We’ll teach you how to squat, deadlift, press and pull as well as loads of other essentials! By end of this six-week course, you’ll know how to perform all the main exercises needed to lift weights with confidence.

This course is designed for complete beginners, so even if you’ve never touched a weight before you’ll get along just fine. However, if you do have some experience of lifting weights, you’ll also find this course very beneficial in learning how to structure your workouts, how to lift correctly and iron out any bad habits you may have picked up!

The six-week course is priced at £135.00 and includes:

• Two 60-minute group sessions per week (four members per group)
• Six-week resistance and HIIT training programme
• Core stability training
• Benefits of lifting weights
• How to feel more confident in the gym
• How to structure a good warm up

Days and times:

• Monday: 9.30am and 6.30pm
• Tuesday: 9.30am and 7.30pm
• Wednesday: 5.30pm and 6.30pm
• Thursday: 9.30am and 6.30pm
• Friday: 6.30pm

Experience the benefits of a training solution that caters to all fitness levels. Our expert instructors lead classes that blend various abilities, ensuring a high-energy atmosphere with music to keep you motivated while guiding you through a range of personalised exercises.

Choose from three invigorating classes: GL1DE Strength, GL1DE Sweat, and GL1DE Core, each offering a unique fitness experience tailored to your goals.

Access to GL1DE classes is available with HUB and HUB Extra gym membership packages (location access membership dependent). Browse all classes on the Life Leisure app or website. For more details, please speak to a member of the team.

Life Leisure offer a fantastic range of group exercise classes catering for all fitness levels and abilities, such as HIIT, Body Pump, Yoga and Spin. Some classes are more intense than others, but each class can be modified for all abilities with adaptations for exercises given where needed. Grand Central is also home to it’s very own dedicated spin studio where all our spin classes are hosted.

All classes can be booked up to seven days in advance and we highly recommend doing so where possible to avoid disappointment. Members can book via the Life Leisure app or website.

We are proud to offer swimming lessons at Life Leisure Grand Central, home of Stockport Metro. The swimming scheme provides our younger generation with the skills and confidence they need when it comes to feeling comfortable in the water.

Come and enjoy our 50m main pool with sessions available for lane swimming, fun swims, general swims and inclusive swims! Our oasis pool is the perfect space for little ones and for the thrill seekers why not book onto our swim and slides session to access our two water slides! (Swimmers must be at least 1.1m tall and able to swim 25m unaided to use the slides). Baby Splash and Toddler Splash sessions also available for children aged 0-4 years.

We have recently had our lockers updated! All lockers now require a padlock. You can bring your own or purchase one from reception for £4.00.

Relax and unwind in our health suite at Life Leisure Grand Central which incorporates a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. The perfect place to come to after a workout and it is free for members!

Opening times

• Monday – Friday: 7.30am – 9.30pm
• Saturday: 8.30am – 2.30pm
• Sunday: 8.30am – 5.30pm

Life Leisure Grand Central visitors will be given two hours free parking if using the NCP multi-storey car park. Please be aware that any visit longer than two hours will be charged at the normal rate including the first two hours. Customers must validate their parking ticket using the machine at reception.

Facilities

• Accessible pool changing rooms with shower chair & toilet.
• Lift down to poolside.
• Wheelchair access.
• Accessible parking available in the NCP multi-storey carpark. Please note this is a short walk away from the entrance to the building.
• Wheelchair accessible toilets/showers.
• Gradual slope into the oasis splash pool.
• Chair or a sling hoists for access to the main pool.

Leisure key companion/carer card

Some families or individuals may be eligible for a leisure key which is delivered by Stockport Council. This provides discount to swimming and other activities across Life Leisure. In addition, if you are eligible for a leisure key companion/carer card, you will be able to access the activity for free accompanying an individual to a session. The following steps need to be taken to access this:

1. Check your eligibility criteria with Stockport Council here.
2. Complete any of the relevant information and submit proof of eligibility if required.
3. Once you have your leisure key and/or leisure key companion card, bring this into a Life Leisure centre and register for a casual leisure key bookings account at reception.

Gym equipment

Ramp access to the ground floor level of the gym. Please note, the upstairs gym area can only be accessed via stairs.

Equipment suitable for those who can leave their wheelchair:

• Star Trac – Leg curl
• Star Trac – Leg extension

If you require any assistance or guidance on how to use the equipment and make the reasonable adjustments, please don’t hesitate to ask a member of the fitness team who would be happy to help.

Swimming

Life Leisure Grand Central provides disability access to both the main pool and small pool. We do not currently host any bespoke disability sessions; however this is something we are looking to introduce in the future.
