Life Leisure have launched a foundation in the name of their late Chairman, David Hopkins OBE.
The Life Leisure team host numerous charity events throughout the year with staff and members giving their time to raise funds. Prior to the David Hopkins Foundation, we raised in excess of £30k over a 2 year period, for a children’s orphanage in the Philippines, Sefton Village Orphanage. Other previous charity partners have included Beechwood Cancer Care and other local Stockport charities.
The David Hopkins Foundation, now in its seventh year of operation has an annual target of £12,000, raised through events such as aerobathons, sponsored walks, cake sales, fancy dress days and bag packing days to name but a few.
Fundraising efforts to date have allowed numerous local groups to benefit including AFC Stockport, Street Soccer Academy Stockport, Linotype Cheadle Heath Nomads FC, Nathaniel Whiles (International Martial Arts Athlete), Reddish North End JFC, Offerton Park Football Club and Heaton Mersey LTC.
The David Hopkins Foundation accepts applications from any individual, group or organisation in Stockport up to a value of £1,000 for clubs/groups and £500 for individuals for funding that will benefit their sport and help to make a difference to the provision of sport and physical activity, enabling more children and adults from any background to become more active and participate in their chosen activity.
A committee comprising of centre staff, management and board members has been set up and they meet once a quarter to evaluate applications and award funding accordingly. Applications for funding should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org using the official application form below.
David Hopkins was Chairman of Life Leisure (Stockport Sports Trust) until his passing in 2009. He inspired all whom he worked with and was passionate about leading Stockport Sports Trust, inspiring all whom he came in contact with.
Mandy Waller, Business Relations Manager at Life Leisure said, “We are proud to be in a position to help groups and clubs throughout the Borough. Life Leisure is honoured to put David Hopkins' name to our foundation, he was well known for his charity work and participation and we would like to continue with this in his memory.”
