David Hopkins Foundation

In 2011, lifeLEISURE launched a foundation in the name of our late Chairman, David Hopkins OBE.

The team host regular charity events throughout the year with staff and members alike, giving their time to raise funds.

lifeLEISURE has a proud history of charitable fundraising-prior to the David Hopkins Foundation, we raised in excess of £30k over a 2 year period, for a variety of causes, including Sefton Village Orphanage, in The Philippines. Other previous charity partners have included Beechwood Cancer Care as well other local Stockport charities.

The David Hopkins Foundation, now in its tenth year of operation has an annual target of £12,000, raised through events such as aerobathons, sponsored walks, cake sales, fancy dress days and bag packing days to name but a few.

Fundraising efforts to date have allowed local clubs and groups to benefit and offer increased opportunities and access. These include, Sparklers Elite Cheerleading, Walthew House, Manchester Canoe Club, Stockport Sharks Swimming Club and Stockport Junior Blues. We are also proud to support young talented athletes and have supported a number of people to attend national, European and world championships in their chosen sport.

The David Hopkins Foundation accepts applications from any individual, group or organisation in Stockport up to a value of £1,000 for clubs/groups and £500 for individuals for funding that will benefit their sport and help to make a difference to the provision of sport and physical activity, enabling more children and adults from any background to become more active and participate in their chosen activity.

A committee comprising of centre staff, management and board members has been set up and they meet once a quarter to evaluate applications and award funding accordingly.

David Hopkins was Chairman of Life Leisure (Stockport Sports Trust) until his passing in 2009. He inspired all whom he worked with and was passionate about leading Stockport Sports Trust, inspiring all whom he came in contact with.

Application dates for 2021 will be announced soon. Please check back here at a later date.
