Cheadle Pool Closure Nov18

UPDATE ON CHEADLE POOL CLOSURE (TUESDAY 20th NOVEMBER)

During routine investigations contractors discovered that ducting had become dislodged in the ceiling space above Cheadle Swimming Pool, posing a potential risk to users of the adult and children’s pools. As a safety precaution, Stockport Council and lifeLEISURE took the decision to close the pools with immediate effect.

Contractors have now completed the necessary temporary scaffolding works and the pools reopened to the public and members on Friday 16th November.

Swimming Lessons Update
Given the ongoing necessary works and temporary scaffolding we still have intermittent noise and reduced access to poolside that would impinge on the quality of instruction we can provide. We are committed to providing high quality engagement for swimming lessons and therefore until we have a suitable environment we are cancelling swimming lessons at lifeLEISURE Cheadle until the end of December. We fully expect that the works will be completed by year end.

All children on our lessons scheme are still entitled to the free public swimming across all lifeLEISURE sites.

There have been some amendments to the swim admission policy at lifeLEISURE Cheadle which will be in place whilst the work continues. All children under the age of 12 will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult over the age of 16 on a 1:2 basis. Any children between the age of 12 and 16 must be able to swim 25 metres competently if swimming without an adult.

We would also like to offer some free alternative activities for our swimming lesson customers at lifeLEISURE Cheadle during the period of cancelled lessons:

  • Children will be able to access our children’s studio classes, these will need to be booked and are available on a first come first served basis, please see our kids timetable with information and age restrictions.
  • For any of our younger swimmers attending our swim tots lessons you will be able to access our Baby Splash & Little Splashers sessions across our other centres for free during this period.
  • We also have a FREE family session on a Saturday morning at lifeLEISURE Cheadle for our swimming lesson children, siblings and parents running from 9.00am–1.00pm which will be on a first come first served basis. Our Stockport Metro teachers will be available on poolside during this session for advice and support. The admission policy above still applies for this session.
  • We have limited spaces for 1-1 lessons available during the original lesson timetable. These lessons will be offered with a 50% discount off normal 1-1 price.

We are grateful for your ongoing co-operation and hope the alternative activities will help keep your child active and engaged during the period of cancelled lessons.

Expected Completion of Works
Work is now underway with a target completion date of Sunday 16th December. We will then need to close the pool completely from the 17th December for 4 days to allow for the temporary scaffolding to be safely dismantled and removed from the centre. The pool should then reopen as normal from Friday 21st December and lessons will recommence on 2nd January 2019 as normal.

Swimming Lesson Payments for January 2019
All cancelled swimming lessons will automatically be deducted from the cost of your next term of lessons which will run as normal starting from the 2nd January 2019. Enrollment forms for the next terms lessons are available to collect from reception so that you can reserve your place. Payments can be made at reception or over the phone (0161 428 3216). In order that we can plan for the next term of swimming lessons please make your payment by Sunday 16th December 2018. If you have any difficulty making the payment please contact email our Cheadle Swimming Team

Stockport Council and lifeLEISURE apologise for the reduction in service this temporary closure has caused.

Please note, the gym and studios remain open as normal.
