Just a five minute walk from Cheadle Village and John Lewis, Life Leisure Cheadle has facilities and activities for all the family.

UPDATE ON CHEADLE POOL CLOSURE (WEDNESDAY 14th NOVEMBER)

During routine investigations contractors discovered that ducting had become dislodged in the ceiling space above Cheadle Swimming Pool, posing a potential risk to users of the adult and children’s pools. As a safety precaution, Stockport Council and lifeLEISURE took the decision to close the pools with immediate effect.

Members & Public Swimming
Contractors have now completed the necessary temporary scaffolding works and the pools will reopen to the public and members on Friday 16th November.

The following sessions will be accessible at Cheadle during this time:

  • Early Bird Swimming
  • Aqua Aerobics
  • Public Swimming
  • 50+ Swimming
  • Adult Lane Swimming
  • Ladies Only Swimming
  • Swim Fit

Please note: All fun swim sessions will be replaced with public swimming.

The following sessions will not be running:

• Little Splashers
• Baby Splash
• Swim Tots
• Disabled Swimming

There have been some amendments to our Swimming Admission Policy which will be in place whilst the work continues. All children under the age of 12 will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult over the age of 16 on a 1:2 basis. Any children between the age of 12 and 16 must be able to swim 25 metres competently if swimming without an adult.

Swimming Lessons

Given the ongoing work and temporary scaffolding we have intermittent noise and reduced space on poolside. We are committed to providing high quality engagement for swimming lessons and therefore we are currently working on solutions for improved access prior to resuming our instructed classes and swimming lessons. We will have a further update regarding this on Tuesday 20th November.

All cancelled swimming lessons will automatically be deducted from the cost of your next term of lessons which will run as normal starting in January. We are grateful for your ongoing co-operation and would like to encourage your child to remain engaged in the interim by accessing free public swimming at Life Leisure Cheadle (the admission policy above applies), Avondale, Grand Central, Hazel Grove and Romiley.

Expected Completion of Works

Work is now underway with a target completion date of Sunday 16th December. We will then need to close the pool from the 17th December for 4 days to allow for the temporary scaffolding to be safely dismantled and removed from the centre. The pool should then reopen as normal from Friday 21st December.

Stockport Council and lifeLEISURE apologise for the reduction in service this temporary closure will cause. During this time members can use alternative lifeLEISURE facilities in the Borough, including Avondale, Grand Central, Hazel Grove and Romiley.

The gym and studios remain open as normal.

CUSTOMER NOTICE – General Maintenance/Upgrades to Life Leisure Centres

With agreed funds for 2017/18 of approx. £5m for the Life Leisure estate, we are working with Stockport Council to improve and upgrade some aged mechanical and electrical equipment at various Life Leisure sites with more modern and efficient equipment. This will help improve the customer experience as we will have greater control of the environment in facilities, e.g. temperatures in both swimming pools (where applicable) and the building generally. By installing more efficient equipment Life Leisure will also become more eco-friendly, reducing our carbon footprint, with our ultimate aim being to offer carbon neutral centres. These major works will present us with some operational difficulties along the way, which we will try to minimise, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. We will provide more details as they become clearer.
