15th February 2022

Transition of Life Leisure operations from Stockport Sports Trust to Stockport Active CIC effective 1st April 2022.

Stockport Sports Trust under the trading name Life Leisure has provided a valuable service for Stockport residents for almost 20 years. Its operation of 11 local leisure centres and delivery of Active Communities’ programmes – including Youth Satellite Sports Clubs, I Wish I’d Tried, SMILE and PARiS - have made a real difference to people’s lives in Stockport.

The impact of COVID-19 has emphasised the importance of maintaining our health and wellbeing and therefore the significance of making fitness more accessible through services and initiatives across the borough.

The Council is therefore keen to ensure that Life Leisure can continue to play a crucial role in supporting the residents of Stockport moving forwards, and that its activities continue to go from strength to strength.

To enable this, the Council has established a new Community Interest Company, Stockport Active CIC, which will take over responsibility for Life Leisure’s operations in Stockport and continue with the Life Leisure name and brand. Stockport Active CIC will also maintain Life Leisure’s ethos, principles, and activities, which means customers should see little difference to their experience of using sites and facilities.

Life Leisure has a great reputation in the community and has worked hard over the years to support the people of Stockport. We are committed to building on this legacy and preserving the Life Leisure name, so that local people can enjoy the fantastic facilities and great level of service they have come to expect for years to come.

We really appreciate the support that Life Leisure’s Board and Executive team have provided in helping us develop this new model and we are working towards the transfer of operations to Stockport Active CIC on 1st April 2022.
