Volunteers play a crucial role in Active Communities and helping to facilitate the running of sports clubs and events. Stockport maintains a proud tradition of volunteering across a wide range of sports, undertaking a variety of roles.

Life Leisure's Active Communities team support the Greater Manchester Volunteering Inclusion Project (VIP) in sport and are always looking for new people to join the scheme. Opportunities range from club placements in the volunteers chosen sport to multi-sport activity camps and a range of community events where a mixture of structured and adhoc sporting activities are delivered.

The VIP scheme also supports individuals to develop a personal portfolio, where volunteering experience, skills and qualifications can be collated, aiding you in future opportunities and interviews.

Please visit the GM VIP website for more information on the volunteering project and to register for all sports volunteering opportunities across Greater Manchester.

Champions of the future

Life Leisure is committed to supporting athletes of the future, through various development, training and performance pathways. Assistance is available to encourage young athletes from within Stockport to progress to a national and international level through training and educational support.

Our Champions of the Future Scheme is a dedicated scheme that supports 14 to 18 year olds, enabling athletes to train to their full potential to help them achieve their personal goals and future progression in their chosen sport.

The scheme is only available to young athletes who live in the Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council area, providing county, regional or national level performers with free access to Life Leisure facilities.

Champions of the future supports up to 20 athletes each year who take part in Sport England recognised sports, and recipients must apply year on year to retain their membership.

To apply for the Life Leisure Champions of the Future scheme, please download and complete the Champions of the Future application form and send your completed application along with the required supporting documentation to:
