"I began working for lifeLEISURE in October 2016 and truly love it. Sure some days are more challenging than others but these are few and far between. I honestly believe this is a company that cares.
After 10 years in the private leisure sector as a Manager and a Personal Trainer (where I was simply a number), I decided I wanted to make a change and applied for a vacant front of house position at lifeLEISURE Cheadle. Since then I have held two more positions within the company, Supervisor and Senior Fitness Coach, progressing recently to Fitness Manager (my current role). Alongside this role at lifeLEISURE I am studying for a Master's degree with the University of Central Lancashire in Strength and Conditioning. Balancing work, studying and a young family is hard but lifeLEISURE have always supported me.
In October 2017 I was diagnosed with depression, something I now understand I have been suffering with for many years. The support of my Senior Business Manager and Head of HR has been amazing during this very difficult time and I honestly cannot thank them enough. It wasn't just senior management that were there for me either, Duty Managers and the Fitness team were also amazing. I urge anyone who feels down, has low days or dark days to speak to someone, you do not have to suffer alone and this company has many people that care. If you ever want to speak to me privately about my experiences please do, I want to help others in my position or similar positions. There should be no taboo around the subject of mental health. The ongoing support is incredible and special mention should go to my Assistant Business Manager for always helping me manage my (sometimes heavy) workload.
More recently I have begun working on projects with the Communities Project Manager and Head of Health, Fitness & Communities, that will benefit our members and customers. This is an amazing opportunity and it feels like lifeLEISURE actually take my ideas on board and allow me to express my academic knowledge and experience. I can assure people who are new to this industry that having people listen to you and treat you as an equal is very rare. Don't get me wrong, I have worked hard for this opportunity, it wasn't promised, but then again nothing is. It's mint to work for a company that acknowledge graft, and actually reward it and most importantly support you through hard times." (Fitness Manager)
“My experience of working as a swimming teacher has been life changing, this career path followed my love for working with children. I feel constantly rewarded by the children I teach on a daily basis and proud of their success. As a member of staff I feel appreciated and as a team we continuously attend training to aid in our development enabling us to become strong and enthusiastic teachers with a passion for the continuous development of swimmers. "Before I started working at Life Leisure I had a membership at Life Leisure Grand Central. I was keen to join the team on Front of House as I had always had a positive experience visiting the centre and live locally. The staff morale is high and I love working alongside my team in such a fast paced and lively atmosphere. My favourite part of the role is interacting with members, I find their fitness stories inspiring and I enjoy hearing of their progress. I am learning more about health and fitness which helps me relay information back to our members and builds my knowledge on Front of House.
