Exercise Referral

What is exercise referral?

Physical Activity Referral in Stockport (PARiS) is the exercise referral scheme delivered by Life Leisure. Designed to help people doing less than 30-minutes of exercise per week and living with chronic health conditions, to become active and improve their health.

A joint partnership between Life Leisure and Public Health, the scheme is delivered by a strong and experienced team of health and exercise professionals, who provide guidance, support and motivation towards health improvement.

Research shows that exercise can help not only your physical health but boost you mental and emotional wellbeing also.

The PARiS service continues to accept new referrals to the scheme and there is currently a three-four week wait for first appointments. Where possible, initial consultations are being delivered via telephone or video consultation but face to face appointments can be happily facilitated if preferred.

PARiS delivers over 20 supervised activity sessions across Stockport per week. We encourage all sessions to be pre booked via the Life Leisure app to avoid disappointment. Support in how to do this can be provided by your PARiS Coach.

Access to gym, swimming and other mainstream classes at Life Leisure hubs may also be an option and can be discussed with your PARiS Coach.

Coronavirus guidelines

Here’s what we are doing to keep people protected against Coronavirus:

  • Continue to offer 1-1 telephone consultations as part of the initial assessment.
  • Continue to offer an online class timetable as an alternative for those who do not wish to participate face to face.
  • Encourage hand washing and use of hand sanitiser on a regular basis during classes and supervised sessions.

Am I eligible to take part?

  • Are you physically inactive (undertaking less than 30-minutes per week of moderate intensity exercise) and not a current member at a Life Leisure facility?
  • Do you suffer from a chronic medical condition such as Hypertension, Diabetes Type 2, Joint Pain, COPD or Depression?
  • Have you had a heart attack, Stroke or CABG?

If you feel you meet the criteria, then please speak to your GP or Practice Nurse and ask for a referral to the PARiS scheme. Alternatively, if you feel you meet the criteria and would like to self-refer, please complete our self referral form here.

If you or your patient are eligible, use the links below to get started.

Due to the high volume of referrals we are receiving, please note there is currently a three-four week wait for initial appointments for the PARiS scheme. We appreciate your patience.

Long Covid exercises classes are for people who have been suffering long term effects of Covid, especially breathlessness and fatigue. The sessions will be low intensity and last between 30-60 minutes. We have designed a traffic light system with three activity levels to suit the individual on the day – Red/Amber/Green. The client can choose the exercise depending on how they feel on the day and the level of activity they have undertaken in previous days..
