Stockport’s Life Leisure centres are thriving once again as they welcome members back to indoor classes, health and thermal suites.

The Leisure provider, which runs 12 fitness centres across the town, shut for the majority of the year due to COVID restrictions. While the gym was able to re-open on a restricted basis in April, indoor classes such a spinning and Zumba have been out of action – until now.

Member Nina Westwell was among the first to return for the first indoor Zumba Tone class of the year at Houldsworth Village, led by Instructor Hayley Ellison. She said: “This is my first time back at Life Leisure in almost 12 months. It was amazing to be back with great instructors that make you feel great and encourage you at every step of your fitness journey. I’m feeling great!”

As well as Zumba, members can also now take part in adults indoor sports, aqua, spinning and body pump, marking the end of outdoor and online classes.

Michaela Pennington, Group CEO of Life Leisure, said: “We are delighted that the rest of our much-loved facilities are back open again for use. We’ve been able to continue some classes online and outdoors, but there’s nothing quite like getting back into the fitness studio and having a good workout with pals.

“It’s been a tough year, so I think there’s a lot of people who have been counting down the days until they could relax in the saunas and jacuzzies too!”

Life Leisure’s health suites at Grand Central and Hazel Grove are now open to guests as well as the saunas at both Stockport’s Sports Village and Cheadle.

To monitor capacity levels and ensure members can social distance, access to the health suites at Hazel Grove and Grand Central must be pre-booked via members’ online accounts. There is no need to pre-book saunas at Stockport Sports Village and Cheadle, however there will be a strict maximum capacity of two people.

All gym and swim visits must be booked online, and where possible, members are encouraged to come ‘activity ready’ to reduce the demand on changing rooms while social distancing measures remain in place.

All centres across Stockport are now open apart from Priestnall and Bramhall, which will open on June 7. The date for Dialstone is yet to be confirmed.
