Get ready, Stockport! Padel is about to take your game to the next level. Life Leisure is excited to unveil its brand new outdoor padel court, offering even more locals the chance to try out the world’s fastest-growing sport.
Padel, a fun and fast-paced game typically played in doubles (think tennis, but with a twist), is becoming a favourite for all ages and abilities. And Stockport is catching on fast. Over the past year, Greater Manchester’s first indoor Padel court at Life Leisure Houldsworth Village has seen hundreds of new players take to the court, and now, there’s a whole new opportunity to get in on the action.
The new outdoor padel venue at Stockport Exchange, opposite Life Leisure Grand Central and just a stone’s throw from Stockport Train Station, is ready to welcome players of all skill levels.
Stockport Exchange is one of the North West’s most accessible business hubs, transforming the area into a destination for work, leisure, and transport connectivity. With high-quality office space and vibrant public areas, it’s become a thriving part of Stockport town centre, supporting economic growth and attracting international businesses.
Ian Dixon, Head of Operations at Life Leisure, said: “This isn’t just about adding another court, it’s about creating a hub for the community to stay active, socialise, and try something new. Padel’s unique mix of fun, fitness, and accessibility makes it the perfect fit for Stockport’s vibrant town centre.”
“Whether you’re looking to get active or simply enjoy some fun with family and friends, this is the place to be. Plus, you don’t need to be a member to play, and we’ve got all the equipment ready to go. So, grab a racquet and come check it out.”
Padel is a hybrid of tennis and squash, but with a family-friendly twist. The smaller court and simplified rules make it a perfect choice for players of all ages and abilities. Life Leisure Houldsworth Village has set the bar and now it’s time for Stockport to experience the outdoor version.
The new court at Stockport Exchange is open to everyone, and you can easily book a session through the Playtomic app. Plus, for those who don’t have their own gear, there’ll be racquet hire available at Life Leisure Grand Central, making padel accessible to all.
Councillor Mark Roberts, Leader of Stockport Council, said: “Padel at Stockport Exchange is more than a new sport hitting the town, it’s a bold example of how we’re rethinking the heart of Stockport. While plans for the next stage of development take shape, we’re making sure this key gateway doesn’t stand still. This meanwhile use brings fresh energy, life and movement into the town centre, turning unused space into somewhere people want to be. It’s exactly the kind of dynamic, people-first thinking that’s driving Stockport’s transformation.”
“A big thank you to Life Leisure for their unwavering commitment to promoting health and wellness through initiatives like this.”
A cool launch event is also planned for Wednesday 25th June with guest appearances, games and plenty of chances to get on the court and try out the popular game for yourself.
