Town of Culture Brinnington Maps Arts trail

The Brinnington Maps Art Trail is a Town of Culture-funded collaboration with partners Life Leisure, local artist Helen Middleton and the Brinnington community, including groups from Brinnington SEND, Age UK Stockport, Borough Care, R Time and St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary school. Between September and December, Helen organised the workshops where over 150 individuals completed art pieces inspired by where they live. The art is displayed in the heart of Brinnington at each organisation so that the whole community can walk the route, which will take around 45 minutes to complete. The Brinnington Maps, facilitated by Life Leisure were a product of the community who helped create the three maps with local landmarks, historical buildings and walks around the community. By using the maps this gave inspiration to create an arts trail, with the five pin-drops highlighted the locations of where the art is displayed.

Helen Middleton is a local artist who has worked with local authorities, community groups and private businesses to create art in the community ranging from skatepark murals to land art to regenerate areas. Helen’s creativity and connections locally with the groups were key in engaging with the community and we are looking forward to working with Helen again in the near future. Helen Middleton Studio

You can walk the trail using the Brinnington Map leaflet, which you can pick up from Brinnington Park Leisure Complex or click on our webpage https://www.lifeleisure.net/local-pilot/ for more information.
